664 fake landscapes 2900mm giant olive in clients planter

Our classic Olive tree – available from stock, and nominally 3m tall, although with careful tweaking it can be condensed to about 2.7m, and, with the right pot, raised up to about 3.3m. The silver-grey leaves means it can fit into pretty much any scheme, and although we’ve had them for years, they’ve only become really popular in the last four or five. It’s also UV resistant, so great for courtyards and patios. 664

This was a sort of multi-stage job. The topiary at the top went in a couple of years before the long wild-mix-plus-ivy planter in the foreground. The reason? There were originally live plants everywhere but the client travelled a lot - so as they pegged out we replaced them in sections. 727

Now here’s a bit of fun, it’s the car drop at One Hyde Park when it was first developed. There are three tiers of envelope planters rising up towards the back, with a really wild and dense mix to around 1m80, probably so that people arriving could see the park but not the road in front. 726

This pair of troughs shows the idea of ‘the-same-but-different’ that you can get with mixed wild planting. Things are in different places, there aren’t the same numbers of individual plants, the open areas vary in size and area, but they’re clearly a pair. Send in the clowns! 725

Envelope planters here on top of a building in St James’ where there were three or four apartments, each with their own outside space. There were about a dozen planters in each section, with a finished overall height around 120cm, and set up in groups of twos and threes. 724

This is on a corner balcony in a garden square – again, intended to take out the road below but let the trees and shrubs in the background do their thang! 723

Architect ahoy! Custom planters, glass screens on both sides as a wind-break, this is very much a planned area, with extra tall aloes to break up the skyline and then marram and other grasses, plus a few touches of colour. 722

Pure greens here, in planters that we’d normally use for window boxes, but which we’ve cheerfully overstuffed so that the view downwards is blocked but the far one isn’t. There’s a glass balustrade, but it would work equally well with classic railings. 721

This is a two-and-a-bit metre long planter next to one of our living walls in darkest SW6, on a scheme devised by (the excellent) Pascal Huser. Marram grasses at the back, and then a mix of greens and greys spilling towards the front, it’s sort of 'wild but neat’. 720

Another huge living wall, over 200m2, with a higher than usual proportion of white UV geraniums. Although it ‘belongs’ to one apartment, it’s visible from others at a distance, hence the need for extra texture. The odd colours are because the picture was taken in near darkness… 417
